Gender Expansive Pelvic Floor Therapy:
Trans, Non-Binary, Two-Spirit & Intersex
About Me
I'll start off by saying it feels very weird to have my photo here and to use my name in relation to pelvic floor therapy and my continued journey toward pelvic floor health. Because I am asking strangers to share information about themselves, the right thing to do is to identify myself and explain the origin of this project.
I am a non-binary person who has undergone pelvic floor physical therapy. I worked with a doctor who found themselves with insufficient material to share with the trans, non-binary, two-spirit, gender expansive and intersex communities. In pelvic floor physical thearpy, I brought up issues not commonly addressed in a cis-centered model. I have gendered bathroom anxiety, I tend to pee very frequently when I can, hold it for long periods of time when I feel I must, and pee as quickly as possible when needed. My behavior over many years is a leading cause of my pelvic floor issues. Although some of this behavior can't change (until society changes), we've found ways to address it that have helped me on my journey toward pelvic floor health. Other discussions with my doctor have included possible effects of injected hormones, SSRIs, sexual trauma and pre-menopause on the pelvic floor.
The Project
Fill out THIS anonymous questionnaire if you would like to be part of the creation of a gender expansive FAQ on pelvic floor health.

I am working with my pelvic floor therapist to create materials that address the unique, and not unique, questions about pelvic floor health and pelvic floor therapy of a gender expansive population. The process of creation of these materials begins with a general FAQ questionnaire form sent to folks that ask them to share their questions about pelvic floor health, therapy and general experiences. Based on this form, my doctor and I will select a wide range of asked questions and create a FAQ of answers that include online resources. This FAQ will be shared online for free and available to both patients and providers. After the creation of this basic FAQ, we may continue on to create gender expansive documents, illustrations and animations that individuals and providers can use during pelvic floor therapy. The majority of the material providers now rely on is insufficient to meet the greater needs of our community. And, because many of us may not seek out pelvic floor therapy from a provider, these materials can assist a greater population toward a goal of keeping, or restoring, a healthy pelvic floor.
